Tysfjord
is one of the larger fjord systems in this part of Norway. We cruised
to the very end of the fjord to Hellmobotyn. Some of the local Sami
have summer homes in this area. Although it was a very overcast
and rainy morning, we decided to still join the naturalist on a
3 mile hike to the base of a huge waterfall. We
walked along the meadow, across a rushing mountain stream and into
a sparse boreal forest. The wildflowers were blooming in the undergrowth.
Fortunately the rain stopped part way into the hike. (The Norwegians
have a saying - There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing!)
In
the afternoon we cruised past some islands with huge nests of kittiwakes
high on the rocky ledges.
