We
crossed the Bay of Naples on a 30 minute boat ride from Sorrento
to the delightful Isle of Capri. The island is only 4 miles long
and 2 miles wide. There are two villages on the island - Capri Town
and Anacapri. From
the harbor we ascended by cog railway to Capri Town and spent time
wandering the narrow alleyways and exclusive boutiques. Capri Town
is a hideaway for the rich and famous who come out after the tourists
leave for the day! Only electric vehicles are allowed in Capri Town,
including garbage vehicles and fire trucks, so there is no pollution.
From Capri Town we were driven by mini buses up the winding cliffside
road to the village of Anacapri.
We
decided to take the single chairlift up to the top of the mountain. It
was a beautiful 12 minute ride, offering views of the island and
coastline.
At
the top we walked around the garden park before heading back down.
Lunch
was included at Il Riccio restaurant which overlooks the sea. We
were scheduled to take a boat ride into the Blue Grotto but the
boats were not running due to high swells. So we were able to fill
up on the delicious food and wine without fear of seasickness!
