Our
drive to Killarny took us through Limerick and the Golden Valle,
a big dairy farming area.
We stopped for a tour of Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. The castle
was built in the 15th century and is one of the best restored medieval
castle in Ireland.
The
park has reconstructions of 18th and 19th century houses of both
the rich and poor. Very interesting to compare the two.
We
stopped for lunch in the very pretty town of Adare. The town is
one of the few which has preserved a number of thatched roof houses
and shops.
Killarny
is nestled in a spectacular valley landscaped with lakes and mountians.
We
took a Jaunting Car ride through beautiful Killarny National Park.
This is an 8 person cart pulled by a single horse. The
park has lots of trees, very unusual for this part of Ireland.
Our
hotel was within walking distance of the downtown area with its
many shops.Fred
was able to download his camera's memory cards onto a CD at the
local Internet Cafe as he had filled up both of the 128K cards.
So now we can take more pictures!
