Blarney Castle

Overlook in County CorkToday we drove through County Cork on our way to Blarney Castle. Old Castle RuinThe road was the most narrow, windy and bumpy of any we had travelled.

But there were several pretty overlooks and some old castle ruins.

Blarney CastleThen it was a stop at the infamous Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone. Waiting to kiss Blarney StoneTo get to the stone, we hiked up 103 winding stone steps. To kiss the stone, you lay down on your back, lean your head back, holding on to rails overhead. There is also a man there who holds on to you. After pressing your lips to the cold, hard stone, you supposedly get the gift of gab!View from top of Blarney Castle I think the best part was the view from the top of the castle.

View of Abbey from Blarney CastleNearby the castle is Blarney Mills - a three story store with lots of goodies for sale. Probably the best place to buy Irish linens, woolens, pottery, and other souvenirs.
